Born in South
Africa in Soweto, Lorraine Klaasen was been influenced by her famous
mother, Thandie Klaasen, Nelson Mandela’s favorite Jazz singer.
Since her own debut Lorraine’s dynamic stage presence and highly
effective showmanship have captivate Jazz and African music lovers
all over North America and European. Her presence cannot be ignored.
Her fabulous voice and dancing never fails to entertain her
audience.
She sings in several languages such as English, French, Swahili,
Zulu, Xhosa, Lingala, Greek and Hebrew, not to mention over twelve
African dialects, however in the last few years, she limits it to
four languages.
Musicologist, singer but also choreographer, Klaasen knows how to
show emotion through the movements and gestures of her dances, a
very distinctive expression of African song. Her productions
presents the finest African rhythms, rendered by her homeland.
“Living in Canada and playing with musicians from the Caribbean,
Haiti and Quebec has enlarged my music tremendously,” says Klaasen.
Klaasen’s upbeat musical style manages to embrace a myriad of
cultures at once. Lorraine’s exuberance and infectious style
accounts for keeping her audiences in a frenzy and begging for more.
She has shared the stage with well renowned stars such as Patti
Labelle, Roberta Flack, Al Jarreau to name a few.
