- Serving on local and national boards in the areas of Arts/Culture, heath care including mental health as chairman, vice Chair, president, etc
- The development and implementation of educational, research and health programs to address health and educational equity and eliminate health and educational disparities.
- The Implementation of programs on HIV-AIDS, Mental Health, Sickle Cell Disease, Child Abuse and Neglect, Maternal and Child Health, Violence Prevention and Youth Support Programs to enhance heath attributes.
- Securing funding to support training in the health professions and education programs,
- The development of Afro centric Curriculum, pro-social behavior; prevention of violence, unsafe sex and drug use; parental/community involvement; Community Empowerment; Youth Leadership Development.
- Designing and chaired intervention at the community level.
Current Work
- Development of local, national and global partnerships for education, public health research to address vulnerable populations.
- Development of Pathways to Health Professions for individuals from Health Profession Shortage Areas and Medically Underserved Populations.
- 12th year of a study designed to follow several cohorts of students from elementary education to doctorate level credentials from impoverished communities for health professions training.
- Evaluation of Maternal and Child Health Programs for the reduction of infant deaths
- First phase International efforts to establish a Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Nigeria
- Providing leadership to medical mission and their evaluation
Selected Accomplishments
- Principal Signatory and negotiator for the donation of over $30M worth of medical equipment to Nigeria
- Principal signatory and negotiator for the donation of 1M reading glasses worth over $20M to Nigeria and several other African Countries.
- Developed the Tripartite Model of increasing the recruitment, admission, enrollment, retention and graduation of Minorities in Health Professions resulted in hundreds of earned PhD’s, MD’s MPH, etc.
- Authored/Co-authored over 25 service, research, and training grants that continue to benefit thousands
- Secured/Collaborated in securing over $100M in grants contracts from State, US government and foundations,
- Over 200 presentations, book chapters, refereed journals and technical reports on: Health Professions Partnership Initiative; Violence Prevention among African American Males; Effects of Preventive Programs on High Risk Behaviors among African American Youth; Ophthalmic Disease in Blacks; Perception of Easy Access to Drugs and Weapons; Pre-Adolescent Smoking and Non-smoking Behaviors and Attitudes; Perception of Cardiovascular Risk Factors among elderly; Barriers to Immunization in Poor Communities,
- Participated in the direct meeting with President Fidel Castro in Havana, Cuba for the removal of medical embargo on Cuban residents and for securing scholarship for individuals from US minority communities to obtain medical training in Cuba at full scholarship
